Planks and Sheet Metal are two of the new crafting materials in the Frozen Trail update, and the Outpost eats a lot of both. They don't come from any special container. Each one can only appear in certain kinds of furniture and loose-loot spots, so knowing which spots to search, and where those spots cluster, is most of the work. Everything below comes straight from the game files.
Quick Answer
Search homes and shops: kitchen cupboards and benches, closets, wardrobes, drawers, suitcases, TV units, trash bins, stacking boxes and office desks.
Skip: cash registers, freezers, fridges and refrigerators. They can never hold Planks.
Pendola Pass: Old Town first, then the Commissary Supermarket and Researcher Lodgings.
Search loose loot and industrial containers: items lying on shelves, tables, train seats and in cars, plus crates, lockers and tool trolleys.
Skip: nature spots and the research-facility machines.
Pendola Pass: the Commissary Supermarket shelves, then Old Town and Almatera Station.
How to Read the Maps
Every container and loose-loot spot in the game is a generic loot spot: each one can roll roughly 100 different items, so no spot is ever "the Planks spot". What the game does decide is where an item can appear. The maps below show every spot on Pendola Pass where Planks or Sheet Metal can spawn, one circle per spot, coloured by type.
Where the circles pile up, a single building gives you dozens of chances, so those are the places worth clearing. Click a map to zoom in on any building.
Pendola Pass: Planks
| Area | Possible spots | What to open |
|---|---|---|
| Old Town | 665 | Venetian and medical drawers, kitchen cupboards and benches, stacking boxes |
| Commissary Supermarket | 231 | Stacking boxes (180 of them), cafe cupboards |
| Researcher Lodgings | 160 | Suitcases, console chests, Venetian and medical drawers, closets |
| Piazza della Rupe | 122 | Venetian and medical drawers, console chests, suitcases |
| Porta Benvenuti | 97 | Medical and Venetian drawers, kitchen benches and cupboards, TV units |
| Cielo Sereno Observatory | 77 | Filing cabinets and stacking boxes |
Old Town is the clear pick, with a third of all Planks spots on the map: every house is full of drawers and kitchen units. The supermarket is the second stop, mostly stacking boxes in the aisles and stockrooms.
Pendola Pass: Sheet Metal
| Area | Possible spots | Where to look |
|---|---|---|
| Commissary Supermarket | 960 | Loose loot on the shelves (828 shelf spots), plus lockers in the back rooms |
| Old Town | 525 | Loose loot on shelves, tables, sofas and kitchen units |
| Almatera Station | 361 | Shelves, train tables and train seats |
| Northern Tracks | 230 | Train tables and seats in the parked carriages |
| Researcher Lodgings | 223 | Train tables and seats, sofas, cars |
| Piazza della Rupe | 220 | Shelves and train interiors |
Most Sheet Metal spots are loose loot, not containers, so it can be lying out in the open on a shelf or a train seat. In the supermarket, walk the aisles and scan the shelves rather than only opening containers.

What Are Planks and Sheet Metal?
Both arrived with the Frozen Trail update. In your inventory they're simple crafting materials ("Used in crafting"), weighing 0.1 each, so they never slow you down. In the game's loot data both are tagged as Outpost materials, the resources for the Outpost, Frozen Trail's extension of your Raider Den. When they roll from the Outpost material pool they come in stacks of 1 to 3.
Farming Tips
- Planks: clear Old Town house by house. Every drawer and cupboard is a chance, while the fridges never are.
- Sheet Metal: sweep the Commissary Supermarket aisles and the parked train carriages, and look at what's lying on the shelves and seats.
- Both at once: Old Town and the supermarket are top-three for both materials, so a route through them covers both.
- Carry space: at 0.1 weight each, you can keep picking them up all raid.
